If you’ve read our newsletters or seen my articles in Berkeley Hills Living and Claremont Living, you know I’m a huge music fan with live music being a particular passion of mine.
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused (and continues to cause) untold damage for so many people and businesses. As I wrote in the last newsletter, musician’s have been hit particularly hard because they rely on performing for their livelihood (you can click here or here for ways to support musicians in need).
A corollary of this damage relates to music venues. Even when life begins to return to some semblance of ‘normal’, these places that create so much joy, magic and spiritual healing for me and so many others will have to remain shuttered due to crowded indoor spaces being particularly effective places at spreading the virus.
So the reason I’m writing to you is to make you aware of a new piece of bipartisan (crazy, huh?!) legislation that is being sponsored by Senators John Cronyn (R-TX) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) called the “Save Our Stages Act”.
This legislation would provide financial support to help “keep venues afloat, pay employees and preserve a critical economic sector for communities across America”.
I encourage you to contact your representatives in Congress to support this legislation.
Please share this with family and friends across the country so that they can also lend their voices in support. At a time when there is so much division and polarization, we need to work together to save those things that make our country great.
Music is absolutely one of those things, with the power to heal and bring people together.
When America is getting hit so hard by the pandemic, it would be wise to remember what great Bob Marley (RIP) implored, “One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain. So hit me with music…”
