Every insurance policy is different, but they’re all alike in that reading the fine print often has us stressed and confused.

That’s why we’re offering our patients the chance to let a specialized member of our team check your insurance benefits for you.

There are so many different insurance providers, policies, levels of coverage, and even more paperwork—and some cover hearing care, while some don’t. A definite answer is often hard to come by.

FAQs About Hearing Care & Health Insurance

#1 - Does my health insurance cover hearing assessments?

Every policy’s coverage is different regarding hearing care coverage. Some policies cover the entire hearing test’s cost, while others cover the remainder after a certain deductible has been met. Many insurance policies cover annual hearing tests with the applicable co-pays and deductibles met.

#2 - Does my health insurance cover hearing aids?

Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids, but Medicaid does. Many private health insurance companies offer hearing aid coverage, but ultimately it depends on the provider. Please complete the form above and we’d be happy to check your benefits for you.

#3 – What types and models of hearing aids are covered?

Coverage depends on your level of hearing loss and varies by policy, but typically includes new, non-refurbished, binaural or monaural hearing aids. Different styles of hearing aids may be covered, but certain criteria might need to be met to get further coverage.

#4 - How frequently are hearing aids covered by insurance, and what’s not covered?

Many policies provide benefits for hearing aid coverage every 36 months, while some provide benefits every five years. Depending on your policy, your coverage frequency will change.

Some of the things not covered by health insurance include service plans, batteries, extended warranties, damage or loss deductibles, and supplies.

#5 - What criteria are in place to qualify for coverage from insurance?

Every policy is different and requires different criteria to be met in order to cover hearing aids.

Some policies have requirements regarding age, hearing loss levels, and reports/referrals from the patient’s physician or audiologist in order to cover their hearing aids.

Medicare denial is sometimes required for supplemental insurance to cover the cost—our insurance specialist is equipped to file for this claim on your behalf, if needed.

#6 – If my insurance doesn’t cover hearing aids, what are my options?

After obtaining your results from your diagnostic hearing test and checking your insurance benefits by filling out the formhere, there are a few different options to help cover the cost of your hearing aids.

You can pay out of pocket for your hearing aids, and we offer multiple payment plans to help spread the cost out over time.We can also offer different levels of service and technology to help address your financial needs, while not slacking on the hearing care you need most.

If your child needs hearing aids, you could apply for help from the Disabled Children’s Relief Fund. Applications are available between April and September.
